Mud, Mud and more Mud !!

Just over a week ago I took part in the Brutal 10k at Borden. This really has to have been the muddiest event I have ever taken part in that resulted in my slowest ever 10k time….

Let me try and describe the mud to you….. Just close your eyes and imagine a very boggy swamp filled with the sort of mud that sucks your trainers off… now imagine this mud is chest deep and you have to get through it; you turn a corner only to find the mud continues… along with “hidden” obstacles beneath the mud that you somehow have to climb over and avoid hurting your self on…. there is temporary relief in the way of a branch or tree that you can cling to and try and pull your way through the mud… and then, when the mud is over you are faced with a bank so steep that you are on your hands and feet trying to find holds to pull yourself up… Yes, this was Brutal !!

It seems like half of each lap was through this mud…. so once you were through it you knew you had to do it all again ! There was also some “wet” bits in cold sandy water and some running over sand dunes and a really gorgeous section running through the woods. I didn’t really find the hills a problem on this one but I’m still trying to get the smell of the mud out of my running kit !

Anyway, to keep you all amused these are some of the photos 🙂
